One of my favorite places to get away for a day or a weekend is Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. It’s along the Smith River in Northern California, just outside of Crescent City (it’s actually closer to me than Portland is – a lot of people don’t realize that). The Redwoods are so serene, and it’s awe-inspiring to stand next to something that was a sapling around the time of Christ.
Hope contacted me since she was headed out to Oregon to see her fiance, who lives in Cave Junction. We planned to meet up in Stout Grove, mid-morning for an adventure engagement session. It’s a gorgeous Redwood grove just off Highway 199. What I totally didn’t realize until we got there was that it was spring break. The place was a little more busy than usual, but not too bad. For being easily accessible, this place could be a lot busier (yay for us!). When I met Hope and RJ, within about 5 minutes I felt like we’d be friends forever. Y’all, I could make Lord of the Rings references and jokes and RJ was on it. P.S., they brought their pupper, Nova, who is uber smart and did a ton of tricks! Afterward, since we were all best friends by then (naturally), we went to Augustino Estate Winery, near Cave Junction, for some wine tasting. A wine flight, 2 glasses of “Celebration” (my favorite Augustino wine), and 2 hours later, we left to hang out at RJ’s house for a little while.
That’s a part I love about my job. Not only do I get to take photographs of amazing people in gorgeous places, but I also get to make new friends! On their sightseeing trip around Oregon, Hope texted me and we met up in my town for drinks and appetizers. And spent another two hours talking and laughing at Loggers Tap House. That is, until I had to leave for a show I was directing.
What do Hope, RJ and I do now that we’re no longer in close proximity to each other? Uh, Snapchat of course 😉
Hope and RJ, I seriously cannot wait until we’re all reunited! Whether that’s on the west coast, or if I have to drag my butt to Georgia!
Are you engaged and just dreading the thought of all the wedding planning? Let’s talk, schedule an adventure session, and I want to hear all about it!
