Depending on the region you’re in, the norm may be to book your wedding photographer 9+ months in advance, and in other places, 1 to 2 months before is fairly normal. When it comes to your wedding, the earlier your hire your wedding photographer, the better. Here are just a few reasons why:

1.

An obvious one is that wedding photographers book up quick. People have realized the advantages of hiring a wedding photographer early and they want to make sure the photographer they want is available.

2.

Payments, people! Many wedding photographers offer payments up to a couple weeks before the wedding. The earlier you hire, the more time you have to make those payments. It’s a worthy investment, since after all is said and done, those images will be the most lasting part of your day.

3.

Engagement portraits! Whether your photographer offers a wedding package that includes engagement portraits or not, getting them done with your wedding photographer is a great opportunity to get to know each other before the big day. In fact, that’s a reason many wedding packages come with complimentary engagement portraits. Your wedding photographer wants to get to know you so your wedding day images will be THAT much more amazing!

4.

Booking a wedding photographer early allows you to communicate several times before your big day. I meet with each of my brides for a consult, to fill out a questionnaire about what images they value most, and so much more. The more time you have to communicate with your photographer, the better your wedding photos will be.

5.

Finally, it’s just nice to have that aspect of planning out of the way. You’ve got your wedding date reserved with the photographer and you have secured one of your arguably most important vendors. Venue is almost universally the most important vendor, then photography/food/music, depending on your priorities. After you have the big vendors booked, you can relax more knowing you will have a fantastic wedding day!Want to know more?
